FAQ

What is Video Telematics?

Video telematics is a technology that combines telematics data (like vehicle location, speed, and harsh braking) with dashcam footage to provide a comprehensive view of driver behavior and road incidents. By integrating cameras with sensors and data analytics, video telematics offers real-time insights to fleet managers for improving driver safety, reducing risk, and increasing operational efficiency.

How does your product work?

Our telematics devices, often integrated into the vehicle, collect data such as speed, acceleration, hard braking, and GPS location. Dashcams record video footage of the road and the driver's activities. Our advanced devices use AI to automatically detect safety-critical events, like harsh braking, collisions, or driver fatigue, and record relevant video clips. The combined telematics data and video footage are then uploaded to our cloud platform for analysis.

What are the benefits of video telematics?
  • Provides real-time feedback and coaching opportunities, helping to identify and correct risky behaviors like distracted driving or speeding.

  • Offers clear, factual evidence to protect against fraudulent insurance claims and provides insights for preventing accidents.

  • Offers businesses, saccos and institutions a complete picture of fleet operations, enabling better management and optimization of the fleet.

  • Managers can use the video evidence to provide personalized coaching, leading to better driving habits and a safer fleet.

  • Helps analyze and understand the root causes of incidents, leading to more effective prevention strategies.

Why is video telematics being introduced in school buses??

It helps ensure student safety, improves driver accountability and provides real-time alerts in case of emergencies. The government has directed all schools to adopt this system to strengthen child protection and road safety.

Are the cameras recording my child at all times?

No. The system focuses on safety-related recording. Cameras are placed to monitor driver behavior, road conditions and overall student safety inside the bus. Recordings are only used for security and compliance purposes.

Who has access to the video footage?

Access is strictly limited to:

● School administration (for safety checks and investigations).

● Authorized transport managers.

● Law enforcement, only if legally required.

Parents and the general public do not have access to raw footage.

How is my child’s privacy protected?
  • Footage is stored securely and encrypted.

  • Only authorized personnel can view it.

  • Recordings are automatically deleted after a set period (e.g 30–60 days), unless required for an investigation.

  • No footage is shared on social media or with third parties.

Will this system track my child’s location?

Yes, but only while the bus is in operation. The system shows the bus location (not individual students) to help schools know when buses are arriving or delayed or monitor driver behaviour.

How does this improve safety?

● Alerts if a driver is speeding, distracted or driving dangerously.

● Ensures buses follow approved routes.

● Provides evidence in case of accidents, bullying or misconduct.

● Helps schools respond quickly to emergencies.

Can parents view the live footage?

No. To protect children’s privacy, live video is not streamed to parents. Some schools may provide bus tracking apps that show bus location and estimated arrival time, but not video.

What happens if there is a security incident on the bus?

The system alerts the school transport office immediately. Staff can then take action such as contacting the driver, dispatching security or notifying parents depending on the situation.

How long will the school keep video recordings?

Most schools keep footage for a limited time (30–60 days). After that, it is automatically deleted unless needed for an ongoing investigation.

What is expected of students?

Students should continue following normal bus rules (e.g. remaining seated, respecting others). The telematics system is not a replacement for discipline but a support tool to keep everyone safe.
